MWEBAZA

/mWAY-bah-za/ | noun

“to give thanks” in the Luganda language, one of the many languages spoken in Uganda

  • Solidarity, not charity.

We don’t build schools. Mwebaza Foundation partners with existing school communities in Uganda and Colorado to create meaningful cross-cultural learning experiences and economic opportunities.

We focus on reciprocal knowledge transfer, participatory design, and genuine community agency to continue scaling solutions to poverty, inequity, and injustice.

our mission

We create new pathways that inspire global citizenship and foster sustainable change through cross-cultural education and investment in social enterprise.

Through our programs, we challenge existing power dynamics, develop meaningful international connections, and support grassroots projects that center on local expertise and perspectives.

how we achieve our mission

education

Our cross-cultural education activities and cultural celebrations in Colorado and Uganda foster a sense of self and a deepened worldview so students learn how to become change-makers advocating for and creating systems rooted in justice.

social enterprise

We collaborate with Ugandan community members to develop cooperatively run businesses. As businesses grow, participants and our partner schools earn income that builds financial agency to create a sustainable and just future.

equal partners

Through these programs, our partner schools and communities learn together and grow increasingly equipped to build power from a place of equity. In that, we operate in solidarity towards our shared mission.
