Mwebaza Kids Summer Club
Our mission has always been to foster cross cultural exchanges and service learning opportunities to enrich the lives of our students in Colorado and Uganda. This summer, kids of all ages can continue these special service learning opportunities by developing and hosting their own fundraising activities. Here are just a few ways to stay involved this summer and help out our friends in Uganda who are struggling under lockdown.
Any child who participates in an independent summer fundraiser on behalf of the Mwebaza Foundation will receive the special gift of a bed time story, read by our head teacher, Namatovu Catherine, from Uganda!
Bake Sale
Do you love to make treats and share them with others? Talk to your grownups about how you can safely host a bake sale stand!
Sidewalk Art Sale
You are an artist! You can sell your artwork to family and friends but you can also put it out on your sidewalk for neighbors to buy. Include a jar for money and a sign explaining what you’re raising money for.
Lemonade Stand
It is HOT outside and your neighbors are all out for long walks these days. Is it possible to set up a stand and practice social distancing? If so, go for it!
DIY Sale
Do you love making soaps or bath bombs? Are your homemade lip balms the best? Have you ever made bookmarks out of some scrap fabric? What else do you love making? Get creative and set up a (socially distant) sale!
Homemade masks
If you are a sewer then this is a great way to keep your community safe and raise money for your friends in Uganda!
Yard Sale
A Yard Sale was the very first Mwebaza Fundraiser! Did your household do some spring cleaning and now you’re wondering what to do with everything you cleared out? It might be someone else’s treasure.
Please contact us (mwebazafoundation@gmail.com) if you would like our support in promoting your event on social media. If you have pictures from a previous fundraiser your child hosted, we’d love to share them with our supporters to encourage others to participate as well! You may donate any funds raised through our giving form below.
Purchase a canvas square to contribute your original artwork to a community mural that will be sent to our partner schools in Uganda. Paint your 6x6 or 12x12 inch canvas with an inspiring message, a picture of your favorite summer activity, or even a self-portrait - the possibilities are endless! Artists of ALL AGES are invited to participate in this fundraiser.
Once all artwork is collected, we will sew each piece into a beautiful collage so that we may share our community and its message of hope with our friends overseas.
Donate via the form below and pick up your canvas after July 1 during regular business hours at Colorado Landmark Realtors, 1002 Griffith St. Louisville, CO. Once your masterpiece is complete, return it to the same location in the ‘drop-off’ bin by September 1.
Is Louisville too far? We will also be selling canvases every Friday through the end of August at Niwot Market from 10:30-2. Come buy a canvas in person, or complete your donation in the form below to pick up your canvas from us in Niwot. We will also accept completed artwork on Fridays!
Artwork spreads a message of hope and connectivity, which we all need, now more than ever.
Miles for Meals
help provide emergency covid-19 relief for uganda!
Walk, hike, run, or bike to raise money for our four partner schools, their students, and their communities. The entire route from each of our partner schools to the next totals 262 miles. Each community has been drastically effected by the pandemic and many are struggling to simply get enough to eat.
Form a team or go it solo to check off 262 miles in one month. Ask sponsors - like friends, family, or local businesses - to pledge a monetary amount for every mile you complete! You can also make a pledge yourself or contribute a one-time donation to get moving for Mwebaza!
Club
Since 2012, Eagle Crest Elementary has worked in partnership with the Mwebaza Foundation. In 2018, dedicated teachers from Eagle Crest and Mwebaza Annex Primary School established a sister-school partnership. The Mwebaza Foundation is an educational organization that offers all students the opportunity to participate in cross-cultural learning opportunities that foster a global understanding and a deepened worldview while building friendships abroad!
Through pen pal exchanges and live video chats, students learn to celebrate diversity and explore new ways of thinking, learning, and doing. Students exercise choice when selecting topics from our customized curriculums that guide them to discover who they are, what is important to them, and how to be critical thinkers, leaders, and problem solvers while studying real-world issues.
We have taught lessons featuring diversity and equity, renewable energy, sustainable gardening, and issues we face in our community. Utilizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we explore global issues and impacts from a local and international lens.
With this foundational knowledge, students can apply their learning in the world, get involved in their communities, and realize they have the knowledge and power to be change-makers.
This is our approach to inspiring global citizens.
